CYBERGUARD INFOSECURITY EXPERTS TO PRESENT AT 5th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL COMMON CRITERIA CONFERENCE IN BERLIN, GERMANY

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (September 27, 2004) – Two CyberGuard authorities on the subject of Common Criteria evaluation and assurance maintenance will present at the upcoming 5th Annual International Common Criteria Conference (ICCC) to be held in Berlin, Germany, September 28-30. CyberGuard Corporation (Nasdaq:CGFW), the technology leader in network security, is the gold sponsor for the conference. The yearly event draws information assurance authorities from all over the world to discuss issues and initiatives within their own countries related to Common Criteria. This year’s conference, which deals with “IT—Business Value: The CC Contribution,” is being held in concert with the Information Security Solutions Europe (ISSE) Conference bringing together an even larger audience of professionals interested in IT-security matters.
CyberGuard executive Andrew Clarke, vice president and managing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, will present a plenary session titled “Does a Common Criteria certified product provide business value to commercial organizations?” Soheila Amiri, the development and test engineer, who directs CyberGuard’s ongoing maintenance assurance activities, will present a session about CyberGuard’s assurance maintenance practices.
Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (CCITSE) is a worldwide, standardized testing and approval process for security products recognized by 19 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and Austria. CCITSE ensures that not only do we have truly global standards for certifying commercial software products, but that these bring real benefits for both commercial suppliers and end users in both government and the public sector.
In December 2000, CyberGuard firewall appliances were the world’s first to earn Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4 (EAL4) certification. In April 2002, CyberGuard extended its third party evaluation to new revisions and upgrades, earning Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4+ (EAL4+) for the firewall technology that is the base of its appliance line. Currently, CyberGuard is the only firewall provider in the world participating in an ongoing Common Criteria evaluation assurance maintenance program. This is significant because ongoing evaluation assures that, when firewall manufacturers issue new upgrades and revisions to certified technology, the product maintains its originally certified level. Without that, when upgrades and new versions of a security product are released, they do not retain the original assurance levels.
