Tallahassee, Florida – (August 9, 2002) – Datamaxx Applied Technologies, Inc. (Datamaxx) announced it has signed a contract with the State of Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to replace the existing DCI mainframe message switch system with a NCIC-2000 compliant CPI Message Switch and state-of-the art Datamaxx Omnixx™ Force Desktop Browser Client application and a comprehensive client server message switching communications solution. The implementation of the re-engineered system will provide desktop browser-based network access hardware and software solutions plus the capability to easily add new interfaces as technology advances. Datamaxx and its business partner, Computer Projects of Illinois, Inc. (CPI), will provide CPI’s OpenFoxÔ Message Switching Application Software and Datamaxx’s Omnixx Force Desktop Browser Client application software for the implementation of the approximately $860,000 contract.

The message switch is used by the DCI to manage communications among criminal justice agencies on a 24/7 basis including transmission of criminal history information, arrest warrants, stolen property, vehicle registration and driver license checks, investigative lead requests and information regarding missing persons, terrorism alerts and warnings. The new message switch will allow the DCI and criminal justice agencies to take advantage of recent technology developments regarding transmission of digital images and provide greater flexibility to integrate with other criminal justice information systems including the FBI's NCIC 2000 system managed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This is the first major upgrade to the Wyoming law enforcement message switching system since 1990. The project will be completed by the end of the year.

As the Systems Integrator and Project Manager, Datamaxx will serve as the State’s single point of contact, while supervising a team of the most respected names in law enforcement technology. “The new system retains the successful philosophy and operational concepts of the existing system, while providing the State of Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation with the flexibility to upgrade to new technologies and expand services easily and cost-effectively,” said Kelly Flaminio, Project Manager for Datamaxx.

The initial state deployment will include the replacement of approximately 140 workstations with the Datamaxx Omnixx Force Desktop Browser Client application software, with more to come in the future. Datamaxx will publish an interface guide (as it has done for other states) that allows any authorized agency to attach to
the system, and be able to upgrade with minimum programming effort, something that was not easily accomplished with the State’s existing system.

“The new system, operating from a central control point, will be continually extensible, using new device types and allowing for updates and enhancements as needed. Thus, as technology advances, global changes can be made without regard to end user system type. By having a central control point, the State will be able to simplify the updating process at a reduced cost, saving the State money while providing law enforcement with the most advanced technology available,” added Flaminio.

Knowledge about criminals and their operations multiplies by the minute and ready access to that information increases the chances of solving and preventing crimes. With experience that dates back to 1981, Datamaxx has established a solid and enviable reputation in law enforcement circles. Jonathan Waters, the Lead Architect on the Wyoming project and a founder of Datamaxx explains, “Datamaxx was first to develop technology that allows agencies to exchange criminal mug shots via personal computer - - a concept that also enables instant transmission of fingerprints. Our company was also the first with data encryption across law enforcement networks and first with PC-based software. The entire State of Wyoming will benefit from this enhanced system which provides law enforcement with comprehensive, real-time information from any location.”

Headquartered in Tallahassee, Florida, Datamaxx Applied Technologies is a recognized leader in supplying state-of-the-art law enforcement desktop workstations, mobile workstations, handheld devices and application software to law enforcement and criminal justice agencies throughout the nation. The privately held, Florida-certified and woman-owned minority enterprise serves over 100,000 end users in 35 states, Canada and Guam, including every law enforcement agency in the State of Florida. In addition to Florida, the company’s statewide contracts include Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, West Virginia and many others. Federal agencies it serves include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the U.S. Coast Guard.
