Florida Awarded "Best of Breed" for Enterprise-Wide Information Security

Tallahassee, FL - July 12, 2002 - The Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute, has recognized the State of Florida's Office of Information Security as a winner of the 2002 Best of Breed Program. This award is based on the Digital State Survey, Part I with categories including Social Service, Law Enforcement and the Courts. Florida is recognized for its Enterprise-Wide Information Security.

The winning programs were selected from over 1,500 projects submitted nationally in the Digital State Survey and evaluated by the Center's staff of experts. Florida is one of only four states recognized in the Law Enforcement category.

The State Technology Office created the Florida Office of Information Security to protect state technology assets against attacks of cyber-terrorism and to implement an enterprise-wide information security program. The Office of Information Security provides Florida's state agencies with alerts and warnings as well as third-party information security audits.

Kimberly Bahrami, the State's Chief Information Officer commented, "The security of the state's information technology is a top priority for Governor Bush and the State Technology Office. Information security is part of the state's overall domestic security initiative and the protection of Florida's information assets is taken very seriously. Our Office has taken an enterprise approach to information security, partnering with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and other agencies on enterprise security issues. We are extremely proud of this recognition."
