ScriptRx Launches FREE Touch Screen CPOE

Hospitals nationwide now have access to a free CPOE platform to increase patient safety and reduce hospital liability.

West Palm Beach, FL (July 8, 2002) ScriptRx, Inc., a national provider of interactive healthcare systems to emergency departments, recently launched a new version of its FREE touch screen documentation systems. The new fully integrated system offers physicians fast and secure computerized physician order entry (CPOE) as well as printed prescription writing and discharge instructions that are proven to reduce human error and increase patient safety.

The CPOE application electronically generates orders such as medications, nursing, x-rays and diagnostic tests. The computer automatically prepares orders in compliance with industry and hospital standards, dramatically reducing the chances of a potential fatality due to human error and decreasing the hospitals liability.

“The CPOE application integrated into our system represents the most advanced order entry system available to physicians while still maintaining ScriptRx’s easy to use graphic based imagery and complete customization,” said Doug Wheeler, president and CEO of ScriptRx. “Hospital’s across the nation now have access to a free CPOE platform.”

The complete ScriptRx system incorporates a touch screen computer with a biometric fingerprint scanner for security and a high-speed laser printer. The system’s easy to use applications include the CPOE, prescription writing, and discharge instructions as well as

access to both on and offline reference materials. The ScriptRx systems are designed to dramatically reduce life-threatening mistakes due to illegible physician orders, prescription and discharge instruction errors.

“The conformity of the system to national regulations including HIPAA and its built in biometric security features represent the potential for a dramatic reduction in any hospitals liability,” said Wheeler. “Unauthorized users are unable to operate our systems and all prescriptions are printed on counterfeit proof prescription blanks that we provide to the hospitals.”

Because the cost of similar systems can be prohibitive for many emergency departments, ScriptRx provides the systems free to qualifying hospitals. “We have a unique business model that allows pharmaceutical and other companies from the medical community to sponsor appropriate sections or screens that are viewed by physicians at the point of care,” said Wheeler.

ScriptRx has seen a dramatic increase in demand since they began offering the systems in February 2001. The company recently received additional venture capital funding to accelerate their install rate and to expand the systems functionality to include additional capabilities such as the computerized physician order entry.

“Currently, ScriptRx has over 260 machines installed in over 120 hospitals throughout the US,” said Wheeler. “We are installing systems at a rate of 30 a month with over 100 hospitals waiting for the systems. With the additional funding we received, we expect to accelerate our install rate and system support to better serve our growing network of hospitals.”
