CLEARWATER, Fla. – (July 1, 2002) – GovAssets4sale, an online marketplace in which government agencies can sell surplus and seized assets via the Internet, goes live July 8 via its website, www.govassets4sale.com.
“Our website creates an easy-to-use, specialized online marketplace that allows government entities to offer surplus and seized assets to any buyer – government agencies, nonprofits and even the general public,” says Len Russek, president of GovAssets4sale. “By using the Internet, we are helping agencies move well beyond the fragmented local marketplace to attract the attention of buyers from across the United States and beyond. This represents a nationwide market of an estimated $400 billion annually.”
Assets listed on GovAssets4sale include categories such as specialty vehicles, heavy equipment, police/fire equipment including helicopters, computer/communications equipment, hospital/medical equipment, water management/forestry management equipment, utility equipment, airport and marine port equipment, and boats, trailers and diving equipment.
More than 25 government agencies, many in Florida, have already signed up for the service, attracted by the possibility of gaining broader buyer interest and potentially quicker response from the online format than was previously available through local one-day auctions. GovAssets4sale offers sellers the option of using auctions, sealed bids or transfers/exchanges. As agent for sellers, the Company subtracts its fee from the proceeds. If an item does not sell, there is no charge for the listing.
“We’ve designed our website to offer maximum flexibility and ease of use,” says Russek. “If a seller wishes to have our capabilities mirrored on its Internet portal, we can arrange it on their portal so that all the functionality and services of our complete website are available, but only the seller's assets are displayed.”
Based in Clearwater, Fla., GovAssets4sale (www.govassets4sale.com) is a unique online service that assists government sellers in disposing of surplus assets using auctions, sealed bids or transfers and exchanges. Buyers include state and local governments, nonprofit organizations, Latin American/Caribbean governments, equipment resellers, exporters and the general public.
