Tallahassee, Florida – (June 4, 2002) – Datamaxx Applied Technologies, Inc. (Datamaxx), a leading provider of wireless data products and services to the public safety market, announced today it has signed an agreement with the U. S. subsidiary of MDSI Mobile Data Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq: MDSI; TSX: MMD) for exclusive North American license rights to MDSI’s Public Safety products. MDSI®, based in Richmond, British Columbia, is the leading provider of mobile workforce management solutions.

MDSI’s Public Safety products provide real-time, secure, wireless data communication access to criminal justice and motor vehicle databases within North America. The acquisition of this new product line expands Datamaxx’s products, services and customer base, enhances its ability to meet the requirements of “statewide wireless initiatives” and broadens Datamaxx’s traditional market focus to serve the largest, disparate mobile communication installations in the public safety marketplace.

Under the terms of the sale, Datamaxx acquired specific assets and related license rights to the following products:

“A-PS” – Advantex-Public Safety product, a UNIX-based message switch application that provides real-time, secure, wireless data communication access to criminal justice and motor vehicle databases.

“PSMC” – Public Safety Mobile Client, a Windows-based client application that provides custom querying through the A-EG/A-PS network.

“AEG-S” – The AEG Server product, a UNIX-based message switching solution that provides IP-based bridge, router and gateway functionality for interconnecting fixed and mobile client applications to host systems.

“AEG-C” – The AEG Client product, an MS-Windows product that provides wireless and wire-line data access for mobile computing devices.

“AirSync” – Over-the-Air Software Update Application product, a Java-based software application that provides capability to wirelessly update software applications and data files on mobile devices.

Under terms of the agreement, MDSI will assign to Datamaxx its existing contracts in the public safety market in North America, including the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the City of Roanoke, VA, and TRW Inc. for the Ohio MARCS project. Datamaxx will provide continued support for these customers, while working with new customers to introduce them to Datamaxx’s enhanced mobile products and services.

This expertise will accelerate the development of additional wireless applications for the new Datamaxx OMNIXX Force Product Suite, the next generation of wireless products, releasing early third quarter of 2002.
