HandyTrac Enters Gaming Industry through the Launch of Generation Nine of its Leading Key Management and Control System
BRADENTON, Fla., May 30, 2002 – HandyTrac, the leading key management and control system in the multi-housing industry, announced today that it has launched Generation Nine of its computerized key management system.
Through a new software-editing feature added to the system’s micro-computer, HandyTrac now has the flexibility, through a customization function that allows customers to rename the function codes to better suit their needs, to market the system to other industries – specifically gaming – outside of its multi-housing base. Another new feature - a randomization function - allows the computer to rotate keys to different locations inside the cabinet.
“With our Generation Nine product, we accomplished two major tasks,” states John Lie-Nielsen, chief executive officer, HandyTrac. “First, we addressed the ongoing needs of our current customers who wanted our system to randomize key locations. Second, through these changes, we are now able to offer a computerized key control solution for other markets that recognize the need for effective key control and management.”
The major change that allows HandyTrac to market Generation Nine to other industries is the customized activity code function, which is used to document and track the reason (function) why the key was taken out of the cabinet. The new software enhancement now permits the user to enter codes for functions pertaining to their specific business. Previously, HandyTrac supplied its customers with codes for multi-housing related functions.
As an example of how the new function works, imagine a casino, utilizing dozens of keys, wanting a more secure key management tool than their current lock box or master key system. With the HandyTrac Generation Nine key management system, the manager could enter codes such as bar, cash boxes and restaurant. Thus, through one key cabinet, the manager can effectively record and track key usage for the entire casino.
Ideal new markets, in addition to the noted gaming example, would include hotels / motels, vehicle fleets, hospitals, cruise ships and large commercial buildings, among others.
“Any industry that utilizes keys in their daily lives are in the same boat as the multi-housing industry,” states Lie-Nielsen. “Companies that use inadequate key storage equipment and tracking systems stand a much greater chance of litigation or theft. With our computerized key control system, those factors are dramatically reduced. In fact, our system usually pays for itself in about a year.”
While the HandyTrac system contains security features such as bar coded keys and login/password, HandyTrac developed the randomization function as an added security feature. In prior renditions, the micro-computer would instruct the manager to place the key on a certain key hook when returning the key to the cabinet. Now, the computer will randomly select any open key hook somewhere else in the cabinet. This results in constant key rotation and randomization, which makes it virtually impossible for an employee to memorize key locations for particular rooms and secured areas.
HandyTrac Systems, Inc. is a leading supplier of computerized key control systems to the multi-housing industry. Its sister company, HandySource, is a business-to-business e-commerce bid and purchase portal for the multi-family and commercial industries. The company’s corporate office is located in Bradenton, Fla. It also has regional support/training centers in Atlanta and Dallas, with an additional four centers (Chicago, Phoenix, San Francisco and Washington) planned throughout the United States.
