HandyTrac Launches Generation Nine of its Leading Key Management and Control System

Software Enhancements Allow Key Randomization and Function Customization

BRADENTON, Fla., May 28, 2002 – HandyTrac, the leading key management and control system in the multi-housing industry, announced today that it has launched Generation Nine of its computerized key management system.

The new system features two functions: a randomization function that automatically rotates keys to different locations inside the cabinet each time a key is returned and a customization function that allows customers to rename the function codes to better suit their needs.

“With our Generation Nine product, we accomplished two major tasks,” states John Lie-Nielsen, chief executive officer, HandyTrac. “First, we addressed the ongoing needs of our current customers who wanted our system to randomize key locations. Second, through these changes, we are now able to offer property management companies additional customization functions.”

While the HandyTrac system contained security features such as bar coded keys and login/password, HandyTrac developed the randomization function as an added security feature for the property and maintenance manager. In prior renditions, the micro-computer would instruct the manager to place the key on a certain key hook when returning the key in the cabinet. Now, the computer will constantly rotate keys to any open key hook somewhere else in the cabinet. This constant rotation and randomization of the keys makes it virtually impossible for an employee to memorize key hook locations for particular apartment units and secured areas.

The second change to the system allows the property manager to customize the activity code function, which is used to document and track the reason (function) why the key was taken out of the cabinet.

As an example of how the new function works, the manager could enter codes for showing a unit based upon the specific advertising source of the traffic. Thus, through one key cabinet, the management company can effectively manage and secure keys for apartment units and run reports to help determine the most efficient advertising medium.

The customized activity code function also allows HandyTrac to market key control systems to markets outside their traditional Multi-Family base. “Any industry that utilizes keys in their daily lives are in the same boat as the multi-housing industry,” states Lie-Nielsen. “Companies that use inadequate key storage equipment and tracking systems stand a much greater chance of litigation or theft. With our computerized key control system, those factors are dramatically reduced. In fact, our system usually pays for itself in about a year.”
