Monthly Breakfast Meetings with MACF

The Government Relations Committee launched its Monthly Breakfast Meetings with guest speaker held at the Citrus Club on May 17, 2002. A breakfast meeting will be held the third Friday of each month. A local dignitary will be invited to address one of three areas we have targeted as critical to the future of Central Florida and Manufacturing – Transportation, Water, and Public Education.

Our first guest speaker was Harold Barley, Executive Director of MERTOPLAN ORLANDO. METROPLAN ORLANDO is the regional partnership responsible for transportation planning in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties. Harold outlined the Freight, Goods and Services Mobility Strategy Plan to accommodate the safe, efficient and productive transport of freight, goods and services, to, from, within
and through the Central Florida Region. An Executive Summary of this plan is available from METROPLAN ORLANDO or by contacting the MACF office. We recommend you read the plan for it outlines the transportation plan for Central Florida over the next 20 years. The information and comments presented by Harold were informative and highlighted the need for manufacturers to become active in interfacing with this Agency and other Governmental Agencies. Harold offered to appoint someone from MACF to the Citizens Advisory Committee of the METROPLAN ORLANDO Board. Please contact Laurie Price at MACF if you would be interested in serving on this Committee.

The high impact that transportation has on the future of Central Florida will require more open discussion
with Appointed and Elected Officials. We look forward to these discussions at future breakfast meetings.
