Redesigned Research Web Site Enables Visitors to Customize their FMRI News
– New FMRI Web site developed by DataGlyphics, delivers personalized content with enhanced navigation –
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – DataGlyphics Inc. and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI) today announced the launch of FMRI’s redesigned Web site – www.floridamarine.org. Together, DataGlyphics and FMRI designed the new site to offer enhanced navigation and direct access to more research information via My FMRI.
The My FMRI feature enables visitors to customize the FMRI homepage to display articles and information from their preferred research categories. Visitors can choose from more than 25 marine-related research categories, and they can modify their customizations at any time. Users also can register through My FMRI to receive free email updates about their selected research categories.
“Our goal for the new site design was to make it easier for visitors to access their preferred research information. FMRI’s mission is to provide timely information about Florida’s marine resources, and we rely on www.floridamarine.org to ensure our research is readily accessible,” said Catherine Billick, Web site coordinator for FMRI. “Since DataGlyphics built FMRI’s previous site, they were able to help us identify and streamline our visitors’ usage patterns. Now the site provides more research information on the homepage – and that information can be tailored to meet each individual’s interests.”
All of the site’s research content is database-driven, which enables FMRI personnel to manage content via a back-end administrative Content Management System (CMS). DataGlyphics developed FMRI’s administrative CMS to allow FMRI personnel to easily add, update or delete content – with no programming required. "The backend system has enabled us to allow staff from all research areas at FMRI to contribute to their individual Web section, regardless of how much Web experience they may have,” said Jessie Smith, FMRI technical staff.
Bill Stover, CEO of DataGlyphics, said, “I think the new site brings more important information to the forefront and displays the categorized information in an easy and attractive way. It was important for DataGlyphics to work with FMRI in developing a solution that used the Web as an extension of their already existing mission of providing timely research information to the public.”
