Gulf Coast Tech Summit to Showcase NW Florida IT Capabilities

The 2002 Gulf Coast Technology Summit and Exposition, the only one of its kind in Northwest Florida, will be held at the Pensacola Area Civic Center on September 25-27. Last year's Summit, which was held at the University of West Florida, attracted 45 sponsors and
exhibitors from Mississippi, Alabama and Northwest Florida, and speakers from around the southeast.

This year’s Summit is expected to attract approximately 80 exhibitors from around the southeast, 40 experts who will lead seminars covering a wide range of Information Technology related topics, and several thousand attendees. The event is being marketed in national IT trade publications and in regional business publications. Both efforts will significantly raise the profile of the Northwest Florida IT community.

According to Event Producer George Scarborough, "Our goal is to attract 40-50 local exhibitors from across Northwest Florida and approximately 30 exhibitors from around the Southeast. With the support and the momentum we are taking into this year's event, we expect to attract national IT companies as well." After we accomplish these goals, the sky is the limit for the future of this event."

A number of major sponsors and exhibitors have already made commitments to participate in the 2002 GCTSE. Led by the Title Sponsor of the event, Escambia County, Florida, the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development arm, the Western Gate Economic Development Council, Elysium Power Solutions, Gulf Power, Southern Linc, Cox Communications, Florida’s Great Northwest, CED, Corbett Systems Southeast, Techsoft, Inc. and Bit-Wizards IT Solutions of Ft. Walton Beach have all made early commitments to participate.

Maria Weisnicht, Co-Chairperson for the Pensacola Chamber's IT Task Force and owner of Computer Education and Design of Gulf Breeze stated that “this Summit supports the region’s efforts to showcase the area’s capabilities and attract more high tech companies. The IT community, Northwest Florida Economic Development groups and area Chambers of Commerce need to come together to help make this event a success.”
