Awards to be presented for second annual college technology business plan competition

Tampa, Fla. -- (April 15, 2002) – Winners of the bay area’s second annual college technology business plan competition will receive their prizes at an awards event to be held from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30 in the Grand Salon in University of Tampa’s Plant Hall.

“The technology business plan competition is designed to foster technology entrepreneurship and a local entrepreneurship culture,” says Marty Donsky, marketing manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers and chairman of the board of TechVillage Tampa Bay. “By demonstrating the importance of technology to our local business community, we’re also encouraging students to stay in the bay area and grow with us.”

The competition for technology-based products, services or concepts is open to full- and part-time students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Polk, Manatee and Sarasota counties during the fall 2001 and spring 2002 semesters. Awards are $2,500 first prize, $1,500 second prize and $750 third prize.

The competition is being underwritten by CEO Council of Tampa Bay, Foley & Lardner, John H. Sykes College of Business of The University of Tampa, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Saint Leo University and TechVillage Tampa Bay. Other support has been provided by DirectNet Advertising.net, Inc., RFB Communications Group, Inc. and Venture City.

The event is open to the general public for $25 per person. A sponsor rate of $40 pays for individual admission as well as sponsoring attendance for one student. Additional student sponsorships are $20 each. Attendance is limited to 200.
