ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2002-- eMedicine.com, Inc., announced today that it is now offering an Institutional Edition of its World Medical Reference for medical institutions and organizations.
The new site, called iMedicine.com, will offer full access, with printing capability, to the reference's comprehensive professional and consumer content, covering thousands of topics in over 60 medical specialties.
The Institutional Edition is free of advertising and permits clinical staff of subscribing organizations to access an exhaustive image bank, optional PDA downloads and low cost Continuing Medical Education (CME) features.
According to Scott Plantz, M.D., CEO and co-founder of eMedicine, "iMedicine will allow organizations to use eMedicine's extensive database for house staff, training and community outreach efforts." He also said iMedicine's features were enhanced using feedback his company received from the more than 2,000 hospitals in the United States, Canada and Europe who have evaluated the service.
MD net guide, a magazine and website for physicians, gives emedicine.com the highest ranking possible in the Comprehensiveness category in its CME Providers and General Medical Sites sections of its "Top 100 Websites" in its December 2001 issue.
eMedicine's content is approved for Category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician's Recognition Award for physicians, the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation for nurses and the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education for pharmacists, all delivered through the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the Nebraska Pharmacists Association. Currently, 30,000 hours of CME and CE are available.
eMedicine is the only medical reference source that is continually updated, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. eMedicine's online Emergency Medical Reference, launched in 1998, is one of the most visited medical resources in the world, with over 10 million uses. The company also created the Group Publishing System, a patented web-based authoring, content management and content delivery solution.
The company is privately held, with offices in St. Petersburg, Florida, Omaha, Nebraska, Syracuse, New York, Boston, Massachusetts, St. Louis, Missouri and Washington, DC.
