SpivO Audio search engine went live today with faster inquiry response and a larger audio database.

The search engine and online resource, SpivO (http://www.spivo.com) announced the launch of the audio search engine. The audio search engine like the image search engine released earlier this week, was a part of the original SpivO Network but was taken down for improvements.

The audio search engine has certainly improved. With faster inquiry responses and a growing audio file database of over fifty million, the audio search engine went back online today. SpivO has additional plans for the future to integrate play lists and allow users to store their mp3’s and podcasts online. The playlist feature was scheduled to be launched with the new audio search engine but was delayed for additional legal research and server load testing.

SpivO’s audio search engine does not currently allow users to search for free music or download illegal copies of copyrighted audio files. The playlist feature scheduled to launch this year, will only be available to users who have legally obtained their music and audio files.

Audio files to be found on SpivO Audio Search are made public by the authors and are indexed much like SpivO’s web search results. SpivO’s Jack Thomas explains, “We want news features, sound affects, podcasts, and other audio data to be available online but we want that availability to be based on the copyright holder’s discretion.”

The audio search engine indexes data not restricted on web sites which means the data was already publicly accessible (thus publicly broadcasted). When planning the SpivO Network upgrade, technicians and SpivO’s creative team discussed the possibility of building an audio search engine based on user submissions using the Flash compression model which powers Spivovideo.com.

Ultimately, SpivO’s managing companies opted to upgrade the existing audio search engine. Jack Thomas noted that “The managing companies feel that video uploads are much easier to monitor than audio files since so many people have the ability to simply export hundreds of gigabytes of music in a short period of time. It was the position of the managing companies that this would put SpivO at risk of becoming a breeding ground for the exchange and distribution of pirated content. We want to bring positive features, tools, and channels to the internet and I believe that’s what we’ve done with the audio search engine currently available.”
