Comprehensive Solution Enhances Performance and Delivers Affordable Disaster Recovery
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Dec. 2, 2002) - DataCore Software, the leading provider of open storage networking software, has dramatically improved the economics of storage management and data protection for Texas-based Burnett Companies Consolidated, a leading professional staffing, direct hire and training firm. Burnett already owned a top of the line monolithic storage array from a leading supplier. However, when it came time to implement a disaster recovery strategy, the proposed solution from that supplier was cost-prohibitive.
"Replicating to a remote site to protect our data would have required purchasing a second, equally expensive high-end array just for contingency purposes," said Scott Hoffman, IT director, Burnett. "Plus, we had to add unique protocol translation hardware and special communications infrastructure to connect the two sites. We simply couldn't afford to go that route. Instead, we researched DataCore Software as a means of mirroring data from our existing high-end array to mid-range storage at the secondary site. As we learned more about the consolidated management, performance characteristics and automation features of DataCore's solution, it became clear that SANsymphony(tm) software is much more than a disaster recovery alternative, it's a comprehensive storage management platform."
With that realization Burnett's storage plans changed. The storage management solution built on the DataCore platform offered manageability as well as the flexibility to select processes and storage components that fit Burnett's environment and budget. As an added bonus, the new solution significantly outperforms Burnett's top of the line storage array: Backup times have been reduced by at least 20 percent and complex database queries are completed as much as 30 percent faster - amounting to significant productivity gains. Burnett is among the largest woman-owned businesses in the U.S., with nearly three decades of leadership in staffing, direct hire employment and training. With several offices throughout Texas and a complete PC Learning Center in Houston, Burnett manages a large number of clients and temporary employees.
"Burnett quickly recognized that SANsymphony addressed not only its immediate remote replication requirements, but its larger storage control and provisioning needs," said Ken Horner, vice president of marketing at DataCore. "This prompted the company to re-think its approach and quickly transition to a more cost-effective and flexible platform, while improving its enterprise-class performance and centralized management features. Burnett's willingness to abandon a proprietary monolithic model in favor of a new open storage networking strategy demonstrates its level of trust, confidence and commitment to DataCore Software."
