PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., August 22, 2002—Cross Match Technologies, Inc., a leading global provider of forensic-quality fingerprint and palm print identification solutions, has reached a major milestone by installing its ID 1000TM Live Scan fingerprint identification system in 60 airports throughout the United States.
The Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (NWARA), in Bentonville, Arkansas recently started using the Cross Match system that captures and submits fingerprints electronically for background checks. The federal Aviation and Transportation Security Act of 2001 requires all airports --large and small -- to conduct criminal history record checks on employees that have unescorted access to secure areas.
Live scan technology, as exemplified by Cross Match’s industry leading ID 1000, replaces traditional ink-on-paper fingerprints by scanning the prints of a person’s 10 fingers electronically. The live scan system then allows for the prints in digital format to be rapidly forwarded through a store and forward system such as the national clearinghouse developed by the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). Digitized prints are then transmitted to appropriate national and state law enforcement databases for criminal background checking. The ID 1000, in conjunction with such a store and forward system, has continually been proven to significantly speed up this process, reducing the time necessary from days to minutes.
"Computerized fingerprint capture systems, when used with the AAAE's store and forward system, are significantly expediting the process of submitting airport and air carrier employees' prints to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for background checks," said Pat Osborne, Vice President of Information Systems at the American Association of Airport Executives.
"We chose the ID 1000 over competing products because it interfaced with the AAAE store and forward system and was the only product that already had an electronic interface to an FBI-compliant printer for the printing of cards,” said Charles Butcher, Administrative Operations Coordinator at NWARA. “Developing an interface with another Live Scan provider would have cost us an additional $3,000 or $4,000 dollars, which is a significant amount to a regional airport. In addition, we can complete a 10-print submission or card in two or three minutes,” he said.
Major airports that have implemented the ID 1000 because of its ease of use, speed, ruggedness, and image integrity include: Port Columbus International, Ohio; McCarran International at Las Vegas; San Diego International; and Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International and Palm Beach International in Florida.
"Clearly, Cross Match has been demonstrated to be a vendor of choice as we now have provided 60 airports nationwide with our state-of-the-art ID 1000 Live Scan Fingerprint System to help them to increase security and meet the requirements of the new aviation security law,” said Theodore “Ted” Johnson, Chairman and CEO of Cross Match. “We are committed to providing our customers with the best identification solution within the shortest installation time in the industry.”
Since its founding in 1996, Cross Match Technologies, Inc. has been at the forefront of applying forensic quality fingerprint imaging technology towards the development of cost-effective biometric security solutions for law enforcement, federal, aviation, commercial and international organizations. Headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and offering the broadest product lines in the industry, Cross Match is recognized for setting new standards in fingerprint imaging components through its more than 40 patents and related intellectual properties.
